With lamp lighting, a tradition that marks an auspicious beginning and a plaque unveiling ceremony, Ingersoll Rand India officially inaugurated a new greenfield manufacturing facility on March 20 in Chennai, in Southern India. The Inauguration, attended by several of the company’s top leaders, select customers and employees was held in conjunction with the India Leadership Conference.

The new manufacturing facility reinforces the company’s overall growth strategy to drive innovation, technology and product development that caters to specific markets, such as industrial efficiency, transportation, food security, environmental control in buildings and energy management.

Facility Will Serve Domestic and International Markets

The company will manufacture a wide range of equipment, including bus and truck air conditioners and commercial heating and air conditioning products, in the new facility, which is located in Mahindra World City, India’s first integrated business city. The plant is spread over a greenbelt area of 15,200 sq. meters (about 3.8 acres) and has many enhancements that reduce energy consumption, such as solar street lighting and rain water harvesting. The plant holds a Gold Green Building Certification from LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), an internationally recognized green building program.

"With its proximity to the local market, this state-of-the-art manufacturing facility epitomizes our global strategy to manufacture products that will serve the growing needs of both domestic and international markets,” said Michael W. Lamach, chairman and chief executive officer..

Building on a 100-Year Presence in India

"India is a strategic market for Ingersoll Rand globally," said Venkatesh Valluri, chairman and president Ingersoll Rand India, noting that the company has an established presence of about 100 years in the country. "With this inauguration, we continue to commit to providing sustainable and energy efficient solutions in India."

The new facility will employ 500 people once it reaches full capacity and the products and solutions manufactured there will serve both the Indian and global markets. Besides this new plant, the company’s operations in India include two manufacturing facilities in Naroda (near Ahmedabad) and Sahibabad (near Delhi); and two engineering centers in Bangalore and Chennai. With a work force close to 2000, Ingersoll Rand has presence in more than 18 locations in India.
