| BEIJING, CHINA (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- Ingersoll Rand was a key sponsor of the Fifth International Conference on Intelligent, Green and Energy-Efficient Building & New Technologies and Products Expo. Held March 27-29 in Beijing, China, the event provided our company the opportunity to demonstrate its leadership in these areas, as well as meet with a number of key government officials and the media.
Organized by China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, this year's expo aimed at implementing the energy conservation and emission reduction strategies emphasized by the Party Central Committee and the State Council. It also emphasized the importance of building an environmentally friendly society and promoting the development of intelligent, green and energy-efficient buildings in China. The theme of the expo was "Implementing the Concept of Scientific Development and Accelerating the Pace of Energy Saving Building." Participating were leaders of relevant ministries and renowned domestic and international experts, scholars, architects, planners, designers, equipment manufactures, suppliers and representatives from scientific research institutions and well-known enterprises in the areas of intelligent and green building.
The day before the expo started, a number of Ingersoll Rand executives met with senior leaders from the Ministry of Commerce to discuss Cold Chain developments and food safety in China. Representing Ingersoll Rand were Herb Henkel, chairman and chief executive officer; Jeff Song, global vice president and president of Ingersoll Rand China; Cherry Liwei Han, vice president of Corporate Affairs for Ingersoll Rand China; William Yu, vice president of Climate Control Technologies Asia-Pacific; and other corporate senior executives.
Henkel and Song were joined by Francis Yuen, president of Ingersoll Rand Air Conditioning Systems & Services Asia-Pacific, and other corporate senior leaders for meetings with officials of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on March 26 and 27. A range of topics were discussed, including enlarging investment in China's green building development, and accelerating energy saving, emission reduction and environmental protection in the country.
At the conference's opening ceremony on March 27, Henkel gave a speech during which he introduced the leading technologies that Ingersoll Rand has introduced for the Cold Chain. He also highlighted the strong expertise Ingersoll Rand has in green building and energy-efficient applications and solutions. "We have been very impressed by the focus on green building that exists throughout the Chinese government and its business community," said Henkel. "This focus fits closely with Ingersoll Rand's areas of expertise. When done well - with strong governmental leadership, with educated and informed design firms and with support and cooperation from business and industry - we can make our buildings safer, more comfortable and more efficient." After the opening ceremony, Henkel and Song and other senior company leaders visited the Ingersoll Rand booth and toured the exhibition hall.
That afternoon, Song gave a speech during which he said that "Ingersoll Rand has a long standing and strong relationship with customers and government departments in China. For years, China's government and business leaders have been looking toward the future and taking the lead in advocating environmentally sound and more energy-efficient buildings. We describe ourselves as the world leader in creating safer, more comfortable and more efficient environments."
Also that afternoon, an exclusive media interview was arranged for Henkel, Song and Yuen with the Economic Observer, one of the most influential business media outlets in China. During the interview, Yuen said, "At Ingersoll Rand, we believe that through business and governmental cooperation we can improve indoor air quality for workers. We can reduce waste and the use of hazardous materials in building and maintaining buildings. We can apply our expertise and technology to provide consistent air temperature, quality lighting and other elements that help workers be more productive. And, we can make buildings more efficient, by using sustainable materials, reducing waste and maximizing energy efficiency."
On the evening of March 28, Henkel co-hosted a dinner arranged by Ingersoll Rand and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. During his remarks, Henkel said: "Through Trane, our company has partnered with the ministry on an array of projects, with our common goal of continuing China's environmental progress through green buildings and resource conservation. We look forward to providing our solutions to customers in China and to helping the nation achieve economic growth while meeting the need for sustainable development."
