BARCELONA, SPAIN (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- To better align themselves with our "Progress is greener with Ingersoll Rand" initiative, engineers at the Thermo King facility in Barcelona, Spain, recently made a number of environmentally beneficial changes to the truck temperature control units produced at the plant.
Designer engineers Lorenzo García and Jordi López, Prototype Technician Eulalio Nieto, Lean Manufacturing Manager David Fernández and VA/VE Site Coordinator César Villalba worked to optimize the refrigeration charge in the units. Their efforts lead to the following refrigerant usage reductions:
- 5,366 kg/year for the Series V/C100/200/300
- 6,056 kg/year for the Series V400/500 MC
Some design changes also were made to the units themselves, including replacing the current dryer filters with smaller ones because of the reduced refrigerant charge.
The team involved many employees at the facility in the effort by conducting weekly reviews with all stakeholders to indentify the critical paths and closely monitor the project's progress.
"This is a great example of Barcelona aligning with our company's 'Progress is greener' strategy, and involving all of us in 'Green Engineering,' " said Rafael Ibanez, Engineering Manager VP, Truck. |
