Ingersoll Rand Takes a Seat at the Table at COP15
10/13/2009

PISCATAWAY, NJ (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- An Ingersoll Rand delegate will join 194 country delegations from around the world at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) in Copenhagen this December. Jeff Moe, director global regulatory planning and conformance, actively participates in UNFCCC meetings, and COP15 is no exception.

The Copenhagen meeting is expected to deliver a historic agreement that could result in a post-Kyoto Protocol treaty.  Adopted in 1997, the Kyoto Protocol sets binding targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in developed countries from 2008 to 2012. The Kyoto Protocol was signed and ratified by 184 parties of the United Nations Climate Convention, with the notable exception of the United States.  Since compliance obligations end in 2012, it's imperative that a post-2012 regime is established this year.

Being an active participant in this process gives Ingersoll Rand a direct voice into the international climate change process in three specific areas:

  1. Energy efficiency in buildings
  2. Responsible use of refrigerants
  3. Binding emissions reduction targets

Participating in COP15 not only raises Ingersoll Rand’s visibility on the world stage, but also provides access to individual countries (developed and developing) so we can help shape their opinions about reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

"Proactive participation in this important process gives us the opportunity to strengthen our brand image, be a good global citizen and positively influence the impact Climate Control protocols have on our business and customers," said Moe.
