TAICANG, CHINA (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- The Asia-Pacific Engineering teams for Hussmann and Thermo King recently launched a new monthly event in China – Technical Day. All Taicang- and Shenzhen-based engineers from these organizations took part in activities focusing on building a long-term culture of technical communication, sharing expertise, continuous learning and promoting ongoing innovation in R&D.
"Knowledge management through sharing and coaching is important to organizational learning, and will eventually lead to increased innovation and greater speed to market," said Ajay Garg, engineering director, Climate Solutions Asia-Pacific.
The following topics were discussed at both locations via Live Meeting and conference call:
• Solving a condensation problem in reach-in cases at retailer RT-Mart, led by Ouyang Jun • Micro-channel coil application for transport refrigeration, led by Flut Zhou • Damper motor reliability, led by Bob Bao
Each of the above special topics focused on one unique technical area, and included case studies, discussion of technical issues and reviewing fundamentals.
A number of new ideas were initiated during the discussions, which now will be filtered into following Technical Days for further discussion. "Like the saying 'two heads are better than one,' Technical Day provides a platform for our engineers to develop ideas, as well as build their technical competencies, in a most natural way," said Warner Guo, senior manager, Climate Solutions Asia-Pacific Engineering. "It drives not only our company’s continuous success, but also individual growth."
A follow-up survey about the event provided positive feedback and indicated all participants were interested in this event, consider it valuable to their daily work and are willing to share their own experiences in the future. "I liked the 'learnt lessons' sharing section best, which will help us make our future designs more efficiently," said one participant. |
