Green Building Initiative™

The Green Building Initiative (GBI™) is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to promote building practices that result in healthy, energy efficient, and environmentally sustainable buildings. It accomplishes this goal by supporting sensible and credible green building practices for residential and commercial construction.

The Green Building Initiative was created in an effort to help local Home Builder Associations (HBAs) develop green building programs modeled after the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Model Green Home Building Guidelines. Through working with NAHB, an opportunity surfaced to bring a ground-breaking learning tool of Canadian origins to commercial builders in the United States. In 2004, the GBI successfully introduced the Green Globes™ environmental assessment and rating tool to the U.S. market.

Green Globes is an innovative green building guidance and assessment program that integrates environmental assessment protocol, software tools, a network of qualified green-building assessors, and a certification system. This collection of tools and services combine to form a practical and highly effective solution to assess and improve the performance of sustainable buildings.
