This year for Mother’s Day we wanted to celebrate by highlighting a mother daughter duo at our North American corporate office in Davidson, North Carolina. Cathy Umberger, human resources support services coordinator and Sarah Everhart, human resources support services (HRSS) have been working closely together for almost 5 years. Cathy and Sarah started their mother daughter duo in the Employee Contact Center and have since gone full circle from moving around separately in different departments, to now working together again in HRSS. Sarah was asked how she likes working with her mom;
“If you had told me 15 years ago I would be happily working with my mom every day, I might not have believed you. I think it is a unique experience that we get to work together within the same department. We had some challenges in the beginning trying to find the right balance between “mom” and “coworker,” but I think we have reached a good place. We have lunch together nearly every day and think it’s fun to watch the reactions when we reveal our relationship with other employees across the company. Working in HR, we both interact with many of the same people and they don’t always see us together in a work context. So when we have face to face meetings and they hear me call her “mom” in conversation, we get some funny looks!
