PISCATAWAY, NJ (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- The Piscataway, NJ, corporate office blood drive team rolled up their sleeves to earn the 2009 American Red Cross “Best Large Company in New Jersey” award for outstanding participation in the organization’s blood drives.
Companies are nominated by their Red Cross representatives, and the winning company is selected based on several factors such as the number of successful blood drives held per year, employee participation and successful recruitment strategies.
The Piscataway team members are Debra Patetta, Gregory Edwards, Megan Grabel, Melissa Looby, Nadine Ellerthorpe, Tom Nath, Barbara Balsamo, Cathy Bryer, Arlene Goromboly, Carolyn Roberts, Gary Uhl and Mike Friedberger. The Piscataway office sponsors four blood drives a year, collecting an average of 60 pints of blood during each drive. Overall, 12 percent of Piscataway employees participated in the drives in 2009, compared with a national average of 5 percent. In addition, the dedication of the Piscataway employees helped boost the number of productive donors (donors who pass the screening and are able to donate) by 40 percent from 2008 to 2009.
The award was presented to the Piscataway team during the “Heroes of the Heart” awards ceremony at the Mercer Oaks Country Club in Princeton, NJ, during which large and small companies and individuals were recognized for their blood donation efforts in 2009.
