CHENNAI, INDIA (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- One of the goals of SHAKTI, a group founded by the women employees at the Ingersoll Rand Engineering and Technology Center (ETC) in Chennai, India, is to help deserving people from disadvantaged local communities. Carrying forward this vision, the SHAKTI team recently helped provide financial support for an infant that needed urgent medical intervention.
In May of this year, a young child named Nethra was diagnosed with a congenital dislocation of the left hip, but her family could not afford the surgery to correct the problem. The members of SHAKTI, which means "strength," volunteered to raise funds for the procedure. Facing the challenge of raising funds in a short span of time, the SHAKTI team made an all-out effort and managed to collect about 70,000 rupees (approximately $1,500 USD) from their fellow employees.
Thanks to the assistance of the Ingersoll Rand employees, the surgery was successfully completed and Nethra is recovering well.
