Ingersoll Rand Team Competes in Tug-of-War With Boeing 757

On August 3, two teams comprised of 44 Ingersoll Rand employees participated in the 2011 FedEx Plane Pull Challenge at the site of the former Indianapolis International Airport. The FedEx Plane Pull Challenge raises funds and awareness for nearly 10,000 Special Olympics athletes in Indiana. Teams were challenged to a tug-of-war with a FedEx Boeing 757 airplane weighing in at approximately 165,000 pounds. Each team was required to pull the airplane 12 feet while being time; the fastest time in the division is declared the winner.

Ingersoll Rand’s teams took home first and third place within the Corporate Division and have raised more than $2,000 for Indiana Special Olympics athletes, with more than $130,000 raised across all 60 teams participating in the challenge.

“Our teams had a great time and represented our business with pride,” said Team Captain Christine Vogel-Wright . “It was a challenge to pull an airliner, but we did it!” Vogel-Wright also finished third in Women’s Division of the Runway Run, a warm-up run through the airport.
