Ingersoll Rand Makes Strides in Hispanic Community

Every year, National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from September 15 through October 15. The month serves as an opportunity to highlight Latino culture and history as well as recognize the contributions of Latinos in the United States. This year, Ingersoll Rand has several reasons to celebrate as it is receiving high praise from national publications focused on diversity.

Ingersoll Rand kicked the month off on a high note – being named one of LATINA Style Inc.’s top companies on the 2015 LATINA Style 50 Report.

Celebrating its 18th annual issue, The LATINA Style 50 Report identifies corporations that provide the best career opportunities for Latinas in the United States; it is one of the most respected evaluations of corporate America’s career advancement opportunities for Latinas. LATINA Style Inc. publishes LATINA Style magazine, a national publication for the professional Hispanic woman.

In 2014, Ingersoll Rand made its first appearance on the list when the company received honorable mention. Being ranked in 2015 the report illustrates the progress Ingersoll Rand has made in a short period of time.

“We’re delighted to receive recognition on the 2015 LATINA Style 50 Report as this honor underscores our foundational belief that each employee offers skills and experiences that make us a better company,” said Nereida (Neddy) Perez, vice president of Global Diversity and Inclusion, Talent Management at Ingersoll Rand. “We are committed to women in our industry and Ingersoll Rand’s initiatives – like our Women’s Network and Women’s Leadership Program – help develop our female employees into industry leaders who excel at innovation, business opportunities and community engagement.”

Hispanic Executive Feature

Also this month, Perez received individual accolades when she was featured in Hispanic Executive for the work she and her team are doing at Ingersoll Rand to elevate the presence of Latinos and women in the manufacturing industry.  Hispanic Executive is a print publication profiling Latinos that redefine the US and international business landscape. It offers readers and featured executives a platform to connect and unite with clients, colleagues, recruits, and vendors.

Among other things, the article outlines Ingersoll Rand’s diversity and inclusion strategy, and discusses reasons why the number of Latinos and women in manufacturing are low industry-wide.

“If you take that into consideration with the growth of the Hispanic population there are some great career opportunities for Latinos, if they pursue degrees in STEM [science, technology, engineering and mathematics]. The opportunities that exist are in critical fields of development not only in the US, but in other countries as well,” said Perez.

Group of Latinos Employee Resource Group (GOL!) Events

Ingersoll Rand’s Employment Resource Groups (ERGs) are voluntary, employee-led groups aligned with the company’s organizational mission, values, goals, business practices, and objectives. Benefits include the development of future leaders, increased employee engagement, recruiting and expanded marketplace reach. The Group of Latinos (GOL!) ERG marks its second anniversary this month. The increasingly popular group will host various events and activities throughout the month – offering employees multiple opportunities to get involved and learn more about Hispanic heritage.

On October 2, Ingersoll Rand will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Day. Employees can immerse themselves in the culture as they eat authentic Latin food, listen to music as well as watch and participate in Brazilian Capoeira and Tango dance performances.

Also during the month, GOL! will volunteer in the 2015 United Way Days of Caring campaign. The group will assist the Latin American Coalition in a free United States naturalization workshop for the Latino community in the Greater Charlotte area.
