Trane Wins Again in ACHR NEWS’ Dealer Design Awards

CARMEL, IN(INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- For the fourth consecutive year, Residential Solutions' Trane business has been recognized for innovation and excellence in product design by The Air Conditioning Heating & Refrigeration (ACHR) NEWS. The Trane Precedent High Efficiency Packaged Gas/Electric and Cooling Units received a Bronze Award in the HVAC Light Commercial Equipment category in the magazine's 7th annual Dealer Design Awards Program.

An independent panel of 30 contractors acted as judges for the contest, which had 114 entries from different industry brands. Winning entries in the Dealer Design Awards were featured in the July 12, 2010, issue of The ACHR NEWS, which is distributed in the United States to more than 33,000 HVACR contractors, wholesalers and other industry professionals.

“Trane has constantly sought input from contractors and dealers to improve the designs of its light commercial systems,” said Mike Ray, manager of light commercial development for Trane Residential Solutions. “In the commercial market, there are times when it is beneficial to have the flexibility to choose a specific tonnage in high or standard efficiency. Many times, the high efficiency models weigh significantly more. The new high efficiency Precedent units are up to 30 percent lighter than the competition, and only slightly heavier than the standard efficiency Precedent units, making them ideal for replacement applications. Since the new high efficiency Trane Precedent units’ weight is similar to the standard efficiency units, the contractor is less likely to need the services of a structural engineer when they replace the existing unit.”

Trane continues to design and develop the most complete line of packaged rooftop products available to the market today. Features like a compact, convertible cabinet, reversible drain pan, a range of gas and electric heat options and numerous factory - or field – installed options make the Trane Precedent the perfect choice for either new construction or the replacement market.

The Precedent high efficiency packaged gas/electric and cooling units were first introduced in October 2009. These industry leading, highly efficient models (up to 13 EER) feature the patented Hybrid Condensing Coil for easy cleaning. The Hybrid Condensing Coil was developed after contractors and dealers provided feedback that some unit designs were unable to maintain the original design pressures because they were not able to clean easily or thoroughly the condensing coil. The new Hybrid Condensing Coil is an “L” shaped coil. The long section of the coil is a solid slab, and where the coil is bent, at the beginning of the “L,” individual rows of coil extend out. The individual rows have space between them, which allows the contractor to spray between these rows and remove the dirt. Thus, after cleaning, the unit maintains efficiency and capacity closer to the original performance. In addition, the Precedent features a new plenum fan, three stages of cooling, higher external static (ESP) capability and phase monitors. The units also have the flexibility to be applied on a standard Trane curb. Plus, there is minimal weight increase associated with the increased efficiency units.

The ACHR NEWS is the leading trade magazine in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industries. NEWS Publisher John Conrad stated, “These awards give us a unique opportunity to recognize the outstanding research and development efforts that go into many of the products serving the HVACR industry, and the awards issue gives our readers an opportunity to read about innovative installation and service solutions.”
