Shanghai World Expo visitors had the opportunity to learn about the many benefits of the cold chain – including its impact on food safety, sustainability, environmental protection and healthy lifestyles – at the World Trade Center Association Pavilion on October 29. The event was co-sponsored by Ingersoll Rand China, the World Trade Center Association and China Logistics Chamber of Commerce.
Chinese consumers are focusing more and more on food safety and healthy lifestyles, and the cold chain helps to ensure the safety and quality of perishable foods. Against this background, the “Cold Chain Day” event included cold chain logistics, a refrigerated vehicle show, multimedia video presentation, roundtable discussion, press conference, interactive quiz and a “cold chain reality show.”
The event included a morning forum titled “Cold Chain Promotes the International Trade of Agricultural Products,” which was attended by representatives from the Agricultural Trade office, U.S. Consulate General Shanghai, China Logistics Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai Logistics Entrepreneur Association, logistics/food companies and cold chain equipment manufacturers. Jeff Song, corporate vice president of Ingersoll Rand and president of Ingersoll Rand China, delivered the keynote speech “The Cold Chain and the Chinese Economy.” He told the audience, “Although the cold chain has a higher initial investment and operation cost, it provides a huge return on investment by increasing the operational efficiency of the whole society, conserving resources and lowering the spoilage of agricultural products. In addition, the development of a modern service and retail industry requires the support of the cold chain.”
William Yu, vice president of Climate Solutions Asia-Pacific, also shared with all participants our company’s experiences in Cold Chain risk management. He said, “We need to establish an effective cold chain risk management system throughout the entire cold chain process to fully monitor, assess and respond to potential risks, thus reducing losses to the minimum.”
Ingersoll Rand's participation in this event demonstrates our commitment to helping China develop a healthy and sustainable cold chain industry that meets the country's food safety needs.
