Ingersoll Rand Named Foundation Sponsor of Inaugural evGrandPrix at Purdue University

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- Purdue University recently hosted its inaugural Electric Vehicle Grand Prix, and thanks to the donation of a Club Car Villager low-speed vehicle, Ingersoll Rand was recognized as a Foundation Sponsor of the event.

The Villager, along with a Tesla roadster, was part of an electric vehicle display at Purdue’s annual Spring Fest. The donation promoted our commitment to Purdue and sustainable technologies to the more than 40,000 people who attended Spring Fest, which was held before the "evGrandPrix."

Helping to coordinate the donation were John Conover (president, Security Technologies and Purdue recruiting executive sponsor), Gary Michel (president, Club Car), Robert McElreath (vice president, Global Marketing, Club Car) and Amanda Fles (Purdue recruiting co-team manager).

"Thank you for all of your help in continuing to build the Ingersoll Rand-Purdue partnership," said Steve Shelby, Purdue’s director of strategic engagement for the I-AEV program. “We especially appreciate your support with our new electric vehicle initiative. The Club Car donation has been used not only to promote electric vehicles, but also will be used in a lab setting this fall, where it will be christened 'EV-1' in honor of Ingersoll Rand being the first corporate partner to donate a vehicle.”

With 17 teams racing electric go karts they had designed and built themselves before more than 2,000 fans, the first evGrandPrix was a success. The 80-lap evGrandPrix is a natural outgrowth of the annual gas-powered go kart race held at Purdue. Find out more about the Purdue evGrandPrix here.
