North American Factory Food Fight Helps Stamp out Hunger in Local Communities

North American Factory Food Fight Helps Stamp out Hunger in Local Communities Six Ingersoll Rand manufacturing facilities in North America engaged in a “Factory Food Fight” last month to help stamp out hunger in their local communities. This friendly competition brought in more than 50,000 food and household items, and also raised more than $4,000 in cash donations given to their local food bank and hunger centers.

This is the second year these six plants have held their Factory Food Fight competition, with the winner for most food collected this year being the Steelcraft plant in Blue Ash, Ohio. Employees at the plant donated an average of 51 items per employee. The Steelcraft facility will receive a traveling trophy to display for the next 12 months. During the contest, each of the sites hosted their own food drive, as well as fundraising competitions that included a dunk tank and a “kiss the pig” contest. Employees earned “votes” by making food drive donations to elect which site manager they would like to see kiss an actual pig. The food drive was incorporated into another facility’s annual “Employee Appreciation Day” dunk tank event, in which employees could dunk their favorite manager in exchange for food pantry items.

While all of the employee contests drove up the donations, the Food Fight event was really about helping those in need in local communities. By week’s end, the break rooms and factory floors in each of the plants were overflowing with donated food, hygiene items, clothing and other household goods.

“We heard many comments from the employees such as: ‘Good fun,’ ‘Outstanding display of teamwork,’ ‘Great community relations,’ and ‘Nice event to bring employees together for such a great cause benefiting our community,” said Paul Arriaga, employee relations manager at the Trane facility in Pueblo. “The event was very successful and it demonstrated our employees’ commitment to local community activism and teamwork.”
