ASIA PACIFIC (INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- Students at a primary school in the village of Douhei in Yunnan Province, China, have freshly painted classrooms, school supplies, new desks, chairs and sporting equipment – and happy memories – thanks to the efforts of our Asia-Pacific (AP) HR team.
During the recent AP HR conference in Kunming, China, 62 employees – representing Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States – participated in a daylong "We Care!" community activity at Douhei Primary School.
At the school, our employees were met by the headmaster and students, who performed a dance of welcome. During a brief ceremony, our employees donated RMB17,000 (US$2,500) and presented the school with a copy machine, sports equipment, paint, exercise books and stationary. A number of our employees made additional individual donations of school and office supplies and toys to the school and students. Our employees then got to work. With the help of 30 students and five teachers, they painted five classrooms and one staff office and assembled 60 sets of desks and chairs donated by Ingersoll Rand. The day also included time to play games with the students and time to learn a local cultural dance to end the day.
All participants said the day was very meaningful to them; and believe that serving the community brought them together as an organization, not for reasons of contributing to a team or obligation to one's native country, but to truly display the spirit of "We Care!"
