Major Capital Investment and Facilities Upgrade for Mocksville

More than $7 million in new state-of-the-art production equipment is to be commissioned before the end of 2010 at Ingersoll Rand's Industrial Technologies facility in Mocksville N.C. The new equipment will dramatically improve productivity and capacity.

The majority of the investment, over $5 million dollars, will support growth within the centrifugal air compressor business. “Our customers will see significant improvement in our speed and flexibility as a result of this new equipment,” says Mocksville Plant Manager Phil Wekenmann. “This is another major step to ensure that Mocksville maintains the status of a world-class manufacturing facility well into the future.”

Six highly automated machining centers will be installed, including precision five-axis type and rotary profile grinders. Five-axis machining centers are capable of producing all horizontal turning and milling operations in one setting, which greatly reduces setup time, while improving accuracy and throughput.

The equipment will be used to manufacture critical components, such as impellers and hydrodynamic bearings, that are used in the final assembly of centrifugal compressors. By expanding machining capabilities, our company will derive a number of benefits, including:

  • increased flexibility to support growth and production needs
  • reduced lead times for critical components and spare parts
  • improved production yield

The Mocksville facility produces rotary and centrifugal air compressors as well as service parts. Opened in 1965, the factory occupies an area of over 400,000 square feet and has more than 380 employees.
