Piscataway Green Team Hosts Environmental, Wellness and Safety Event

PISCATAWAY, NJ(INGERSOLL RAND NEWS SERVICE) -- In May, the Piscataway, NJ, Green Team hosted the first annual Environmental, Wellness and Safety event in the office’s main lobby. Over the course of the two-day event, building tenants Ingersoll Rand, Johnson & Johnson, American Standard and WABCO shared resources and raffled off prizes at wellness and information tables.

A number of other companies were invited to participate as well. Techniart, a company that provides discounted energy-efficient lighting, made its second visit to the Piscataway office, selling 1,053 Energy Star Qualified Compact Fluorescent Lamps and energy-efficient light bulbs. After combining energy savings, product cost and the life of the light bulbs, the employees who purchased the products will save 9,324 percent compared to traditional lighting retail cost, with a net savings of $98,181. Moreover, by using these energy-efficient products 859,625 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions will be avoided and 601,137 kWh saved.

Other tables at the event were sponsored by Arbonne (Cosmetics), Alter Eco (Environmental Design), American Standard, Blue Sky Technologies (Solar Electricity), Johnson & Johnson Environmental & Safety Team, Ingersoll Rand Safety Team, Trane Residential Air Conditioning, Water Conservation Bath Products, Safe Kids, Ingersoll Rand Helping Heroes and the Piscataway Fitness Center. Body Essential Therapeutic Massage gave 75 20-minute massages, and a not-for-profit food co-op introduced its earth-friendly organic produce and body-care products, signing up 40 employees to its mailing list. Speakers included Middlesex County Freeholder James Polo and Jennifer Diana Twyman of New Jersey American Water.

Helping Heroes, a group dedicated to providing employees with opportunities to participate in community outreach programs, collected $536 via a flower sale. After being combined with a $1,000 donation from Ingersoll Rand’s Piscataway fund, Helping Heroes will contribute $1,536 to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. In addition, the American Red Cross signed up 15 employees for its office blood drive. The 15 donations will help approximately 45 people, with just one pint of blood able to help save up to three lives.

Kevin Tubbs, Piscataway’s Green Team leader and Ingersoll Rand’s director of environmental affairs, said, “It was truly special to work together with representatives of our neighbors here at 1 Centennial, Johnson & Johnson, American Standard and WABCO, to sponsor our first annual Environmental Safety and Wellness event. Working together, we were able to offer opportunities to our associates to reduce their energy usage and carbon footprint, educate themselves in ways to reduce water usage, eat healthier and bring safety home with them, all while having fun. We’ve already started discussing what we are going to do next year!”

Employees and vendors considered the day a success. Several vendors expressed their interest to return, and the Piscataway Green Team looks forward to hosting the next event.
