UrbanEden Nearly Ready for Competition

Above: Last week the UNCC team put the final touches on the deck and vertical garden to prepare the home for tours on campus.

With the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon just one month away, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte team is putting the finishing touches on their entry, UrbanEden. With financial and engineering support coming from across the Ingersoll Rand enterprise, UrbanEden is designed to be a net-zero energy oasis within a city. The home incorporates solar panels, innovative materials and smart technologies under one small roof to give city-dwellers access to nature and natural resources within their residence.

Later this month the home will be shipped on flatbed trucks to Irvine, California, where the team from UNCC will take part in the Solar Decathlon competition from October 3-13. Over the last few weeks the team has been busy sharing the energy-saving concepts and innovative technology that UrbanEden displays.
